Coppiced wood is used for chair making and to make the under-frame of the table. The table top is made from mature Ash sawn and seasoned in planks. English Ash usually gets brown streaks in it as the tree gets older.
To remember the men from Tunstall who died in the First world war 100 years ago Tunstall parish council commissioned me to make an Oak bench.
Made from locally grown Oak.
I saw this little chair I made about 20 years ago at a friends house.
It looked well used and happy, think I may start making this design again.

Logs are split using a Froe & cudgel into quarters. The cudgel is laying on the ground in the photo.
A very clean straight 20 year old coppiced Chestnut log.
I will be at the Norfolk show in the woodland crafts area. People say it’s the nicest part of the show in amongst the trees.
